The foundation stone of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) the erstwhile Motilal
Nehru Regional Engineering College was laid by former Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru
on June 26,1961 with the joint efforts of Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh.
The institute was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India Sri Lal Bahaur Shastri on 18
April 1965. MNIT gained the status of deemed university on 26thJune2002.
The institute offers study opportunities to approximately 500 students at Under Graduate level
and 150 students at Post Graduate level.
The institute is open to students of different nationalities and hence has developed cross cultural
environment. Students from nations like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Mauritius, Malaysia,
Iran, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine and Thailand come every year to MNNIT Allahabad.
