Engineering
National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra (NIT-K) was set up in the year 1963 as one of
17 Regional Engineering Colleges planned by the central government in association with
the state governments across the country during 1959-1965. The NIT-K was known by the
name of Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra till 2002.
However in 2002, on the recommendations of a high power committee constituted in 1998
by Ministry of Human Resources and Development, it was given the name of National Institute
of Technology and hence became popular with NIT, Kurukshetra. It was established with the
same basic aim as other RECs were set up- to churn out a huge pool of talented engineering
graduates in the country every year.
