The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB) was
established by Government of India in Bangalore (the Silicon Valley of India)
in 1999 with an orientation to produce and promote Information Technology professionals
in the country.
The institute, a non profit organization, registered under Society's Registration
Act, 1860, is recognized as "Deemed University" hence takes the responsibility of
designing its course curriculum, and conducting examination at different levels.
The university also conducts research in the emerging areas of information and
software technologies. The institute gets support from Government of India, Government
of Karnataka, and IT industry of India and Overseas along with many other allied industry partners.
The IIIT Bangalore, to realize its objective, offers programmes at and above
post graduate level in different disciplines of Information Technology and allied
sciences. The purpose of all these programmes is to produce IT manpower for the
service of IT and Software industry and to make India self reliant in the field of IT resources.
The institute believes in the concept of exchanging education and hence
has collaborations with industry and government, both national and overseas.
To blend the technology with bio sciences the institute has an Indo-Russian
Center for Biotechnology and video conferencing facility for networking with
leading institutions in India and overseas.
