The K. Kasturirangan Committee, tasked with drafting a new education policy, has got a third extension from the HRD Ministry to give final shape to the draft. The panel, headed by the former Isro chief, which was to submit the report by June 30, now has time till August 31. The continued extensions have drawn a lot of flak from experts as other decisions such as the scraping of UGC and conducting competitive exams are taken without reference to the new policy.
The Osmania University Teachers Association in a statement said, "This is a major policy decision, and a committee may be constituted to seek opinion from stakeholders by organizing meetings at different places throughout the country. There are about 18 bodies to regulate higher education. There is a need to bring all these bodies under a single entity," it said.
