The Telangana Education Department has made a decision regarding the recruitment of teachers in the state. It has been decided that the recruitment for Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs) will only be conducted in collaboration with candidates who have completed a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed.). Candidates who are eligible for a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree can only apply for the School Assistant (SA) positions. Furthermore, in 2018, the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) also approved the eligibility of B.Ed. graduates for SGT positions. However, this decision has recently faced legal challenges in the Supreme Court, specifically related to the appointment of teachers in the state of Rajasthan. The Supreme Court has ruled that teachers in primary schools should be appointed in accordance with the eligibility criteria of having a D.Ed. qualification. This decision has been uploaded to the NCTEs website and is now legally binding across the country.
