India-EU High-Level Dialogue Held:
The first India-EU High-Level Trade and Investment Dialogue was held.
Highlights:
♦ The dialogue is the culmination of the 15th Summit of India-EU Leaders, held in July 2020. The aim is to direct ministerial-level bilateral trade and investment ties.
♦ The ministers have agreed to hold meetings over the next three months with the goal of finding consensus on a range of issues relating to bilateral trade and investment cooperation, for example. Bilateral Regulatory Dialogue; India-EU Multilateral ♦ Dialogue to explore more collaboration possibilities, etc.
♦ In an important move forward, the relaunch of daily relations between bilateral trade and investment agreements was also discussed, and an interim agreement was also discussed, to begin with.
US Plans to Reengage with UN Human Rights Council:
The United States has announced intentions to rejoin the United Nations Human Rights Council, which was withdrawn three years ago by former President Donald Trump.
Highlights:
♦ To help resolve the "credibility flaws" of the previous body, the UN Human Rights Commission was reorganized from its predecessor, the UN Human Rights Commission.
♦ The headquarters of UNHCR is in Geneva, Switzerland.
♦ The Office of the United Nations Human Rights Commission for Refugees has 47 members who work at any time to ensure regional representation according to the distribution of the world`s regions, and elections are held every year to fill seats.
♦ There is a three-year term for each elected member. Countries are not eligible to hold more than two seats in succession.
♦ Regular reports of all 193 UN member states have been passed by the UN Commission on Human Rights and non-binding resolutions on human rights issues have been passed, which is called the Universal Periodic Review.
♦ It is responsible for overseeing specialist inquiries (special procedures) in particular countries involving infringements.
