Hwasong-12 Missile Launched By North Korea

On January 30, 2022, North Korea deployed its Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile.
 
Highlights:
  • January was one of North Korea`s busiest months for missile tests.
  • With the launching of Hwasong-12, the country emphasizes its efforts to ensure the reliability of its nuclear-weapons delivery systems.
  • The testing program began with a new "hypersonic missile." It later featured long-range cruise missiles short-range ballistic missiles launched from railcars and airports, highlighting its fast-expanding and developing arsenal despite stalled denuclearization talks.
  • Since 2017, North Korea has not conducted a nuclear test or launched long-range intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). 
  • The launch of Hwasong-12, on the other hand, indicated that such testing could begin shortly.
  • In April 2017, Israel launched the Hwasong-12 IRBM for the first time. Following the success of the initial launch, it launched two more Hwasong-12s in 2017.
  • A missile was just fired on a higher trajectory in a test and flew for 800 kilometers at around 2,000 kilometers. It has a range of 4,500 kilometers.
