Noted Malayalam writer Sethu received Ezhuthachan Award 2022
Sethu (A. Sethumadhavan), a well-known Malayalam fiction author, has been chosen for the Kerala government`s coveted "Ezhuthachan Puraskaram" this year in honour of his overall contribution to the Malayalam language and literature. By going beyond the concepts of movements and trends, he concentrated on modernising literature.
His well-known works include Pandavapuram, Kaimudrakal, Adayalangal, Kiratam, Araamathe Penkutty, and Kilimozhikalkkappuram. In addition to these, he was the recipient of numerous honours, including those from the Kendra Sahitya Akademi and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. Numerous of his works have been adapted into films and have been translated into both Indian and international languages.
The career of Sethu:
- A banker by profession, the 80-year-old’s noted works include ‘Pandavapuram’ and ‘Atayalangal’ (novels) and ‘Petiswapnangal’ and ‘Sethuvinte Kathakal’ (short story). Sethu is also a recipient of the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for both novels and short stories.
- The state government’s highest literary honour has been named after Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, a 16th-century devotional poet, considered to be the father of the Malayalam language. The honour carries a cash award of Rs 5,00,000 and a citation.
###Aruna Sairam honoured with Chevalier Award by French Govt
Aruna Sairam is a Carnatic vocalist, composer, collaborator, humanitarian, and public speaker who has received the highest honour bestowed by the French government, the Chevalier of l`Ordre des Arts et les award. Aruna Sairam was chosen for this honour not only for her talent as a singer but also for her efforts to advance Indo-French ties.
Aruna Sairam is the recipient of several awards including the Padma Shri by the Central Government and the Sangita Kalanidhi by the Music Academy.
She was also elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Apart from this, she is also the recipient of the Tamil Nadu government’s Kalaimamani Award and the Kalidas Samman Award of Madhya Pradesh.
Aruna Sairam has also received the US Congressional Award of Excellence and was also conferred appreciation by the Mayor of the City of New York and the city of San Diego.
###M T Vasudevan Nair awarded with Kerala Jyothi award
The first Kerala Jyothi award, which was established by the state government in the spirit of the Padma awards to honour persons who have made priceless contributions to society, has been given to renowned Malayalam author and Jnanpith laureate M T Vasudevan Nair.
The Kerala administration made the decision to establish the highest state-level honours, modelled after the Padma awards, last year.
The three categories of “Kerala Jyothi,” “Kerala Prabha,” and “Kerala Sree” awards were settled upon.
The government has made the decision to present the prizes during Kerala Piravi.
