New Border Law Adopted In China
China has passed a national law governing the "protection and exploitation" of the country`s borders.
In the midst of regional tensions, the new law was enacted to maintain national security and manage border-related issues at the legal level.
The new border legislation will go into effect on January 1, 2022. It orders the People`s Liberation Army (PLA) of China to repel any "invasion, encroachment, infiltration, [or] provocation" across China`s land borders.
The law also provides a legal framework for hard border closures
The law requires the Chinese government to strengthen border defence, support economic & social development, and open up border areas.
