Indian Army Organises Mela to celebrate Diamond Jubilee of Battle of Walong

 
As part of the Battle of Walong Diamond Jubilee festivities in Arunachal Pradesh, the Indian Army holds a fair or mela. To remember the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Army in defending Indian territory against Chinese assault in 1962, it is a component of the Diamond Jubilee festivities of the Battle of Walong.

Indian Railways Accomplishes Electrification of 82% of the Total BG network

 
According to Indian Railways, electrification of 82% of its broad gauge network is now complete. The national transporter reported that 1,223 route kilometres (RKMs) of electrification were completed in the 2022–23 fiscal year until October 2022, as opposed to 895 RKMs during the same time of FY 2021–22.
 
 
Railway’s Target:
The railway is working steadily towards achieving net zero Carbon Emissions by 2030 to become the world’s largest Green Railway. “The Indian Railways has embarked upon an ambitious plan of electrification of its complete Broad Gauge network which would not only result in a better fuel energy usage resulting in increased throughput, reduced fuel expenditure but also savings in precious foreign exchange,” the ministry said in a statement.
 
Current Situation:
As on October 31, out of 65,141 RKM of broad gauge (BG) network of Indian Railways, 53,470 BG RKM have been electrified, which is 82.08 per cent of the total BG network.
 
It is worth mentioning that record electrification of 6,366 RKMs was achieved in Indian Railways’ history during 2021-22. Earlier, highest electrification was 6,015 RKM during 2020-21.

Indian Navy Conducts ‘Prasthan’ an Offshore Security Exercise

 
The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) platform, 150 kilometres off the coast of Mumbai, was the site of a staged exercise the Indian Navy carried out to assess organisational performance in defending offshore assets. The Indian Navy gave the drill the name "Prasthan."
 
Prasthan is conducted twice a year under the aegis of Headquarters, Western Naval Command. The exercise which is conducted every six months aims to integrate the efforts of all maritime stakeholders involved in offshore defense.

  • The ‘Prasthan’ which is an offshore security exercise aims to examine various measures and protocols conceived to address security threats and other contingencies.
  • The Indian Navy has included several crises such as bomb threats, blows out, fire, Terrorists, and medical evacuations during the exercise.
  • The Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, ONGC, Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA), the Police fisheries, and customs were a part of the Prasthan exercise.
  • A detailed analysis will be undertaken to assess areas and aspects that need improvement and attention as a part of the exercise.
